Knights Provide Coats for Kids Over Thanksgiving Weekend

As prices rise and temperatures drop, the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids program steps in to provide children in need with coats for the winter season. Over Thanksgiving weekend, Knights distributed thousands of free coats at events held across the United States.

Cardinal Wilton Gregory of Washington attended the event held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Washington, D.C. on Black Friday, Nov. 26. “There are a lot of people who will benefit from the charity and the generosity and the care of the Knights of Columbus,” he said. “Especially families that are under extreme pressure this year, because of the COVID, because of the economy, so I'm very, very grateful … God bless the Knights of Columbus.”

A new winter coat is a tangible sign of warmth and care that many children truly appreciate.

“When we first started this program in Helena,” said Marty Beatty, state deputy for Montana. “One of the kids got a new coat, and he was crying. He said, ‘This is the first new coat I have ever had.’ That really touched my heart and made me want to do more and more.”
